Nike AeroSwift Singlet (2020) Review
Last year's Nike AeroSwift Singlet was my favorite top for races and warmer weather running. The closer cut, shorter fit, and the extreme ventilation were perfect for me so I was excited to see what improvements could be made in the new version.
What Is It?
Like last year, the Nike AeroSwift Singlet is Nike's most lightweight high performance singlet. Using Dri-FIT technology and runner-based data to determine the optimal placement of ventilation holes, the singlet is designed for breathability and comfort.
It retains a racer back design with nice wide arm holes for ventilation and mobility. One new detail is that the singlet features a new split bottom with a slightly elongated back hem. Also, interestingly, this year's model is created from at least 75% recycled polyester fabric.
A US men's M size weighs 1.97oz (56g) which is just a tad heavier than the model it replaces.
It available in a number of colors as well as some special prints.
Why Did I Get It?
For the same reasons as last time, I'm always looking for the most breathable and lightweight tops because I live in a warmer climate and I perspire A LOT. Given that I had good luck with the previous year's model, I made an assumption that this year's model would be equally good. I liked that the back hem is split now to help keep the single from bunching at the bottom.
How Has It Worked Out?
Generally speaking, it largely behaves just like last year's in terms of being a lightweight top that's easy to run in. Even on the hottest of days, it doesn't get oversaturated and get heavy, it doesn't move, and it dries off relatively quickly.
The only thing I noticed is that it's not as breathable as the 2019 model due to less ventilation holes. Last year's model had holes covering the entire singlet versus the strategically placed ones for the new model. Also, the holes are smaller in size which means the singlet looks less like a cheese grater which gives it a nicer modern look.
Because these singlets are very fitted, you may want to consider sizing up if you want some additional room. I purchased a limited edition Oregon Track Club version in a large (up from my regular medium) and found that it also fits albeit with a slightly baggier fit.
The Good
- It's still really light
- It breathes well
- It dries fast
- It doesn't get soggy
- It's still well made
- It's still shorter length but with a better bottom hem
The Less Good
- Less ventilation than 2019 model
- Still not cheap
Is It Worth It?
I think so.
It's still one of the lightest models on the market and one of the better options on the market for warm weather racing and training. The shorter cut and Dri-FIT material are still great for keeping the singlet light and dry and not moving even when it gets wet. While less ventilation holes was a downgrade in my opinion, the new split hem is an upgrade and makes it fit better and gives it a nicer modern look.
