New Year's Adventure 2016: Joshua Tree
It looks like we've started a tradition of starting off the new year doing something different. Last year was snowboarding in the local mountains while people slept off their new year's celebrations.
This year's random idea was to drive out to Joshua Tree State Park to doing a little bit of hiking and practice photography. Located about 3 hours from where we live in Los Angeles, we headed east along the 60 FWY (was supposed to be the 10 FWY but...same difference) to the less busy South entrance.
We arrived at the visitor center to get our parking pass and figure out where we wanted to go. We noticed some hiking trails nearby in Cottonwood Springs and decided to head over to Mastodon Peak.
The first part of our hike was derailed by the massive group that showed up out of nowhere. We wanted to take photos with them not in any of our shots so we ended up waiting for them to move on. We also ended up straying from the path as I tried to navigate our group around them.
We kinda got lost.
We eventually made it to Mastondon Mine. From the top we got to see a great view of the Salton Sea and the realization we were so close to the parking lot which was nice since the sun was beginning to set.
Who knows what next year's adventure will be?
